2 Psalm 5:11 But let all who take refuge in You be glad, Let them ever sing for joy; And may You shelter them, That those who love Your name may exult in You. Hymns Invitation Red Songbook - Supplemental

3 Israel: Root, Remnant and Whole
Romans 11 Israel: Root, Remnant and Whole Romans 11 is often used as a prooftext for Calvinism. This fails because the Calvinistic interpretation is at odds with other Scriptures. Scriptures are understood in light of other Scriptures; therefore, we understand this chapter from the total of the Bible

4 How Israel Succeeds Paul said that Israel failed to find Christ in the Law - He meant this generally - He claims that a remnant will be saved - Paul is a member of this remnant Ro 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified. Ga 3:24 Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.

5 Remnant Concept Remnant: a small portion of the whole to survive - Remnant of the flood – 1 Peter 3:20 - Remnant of the wilderness – Numbers 14:30 - Remnant of Judah – 1 Kings 11:13 - Remnant of Israel – 1 Kings 19:10 - Remnant to return – Ezra 2:64 POINT: Only a few will be saved – Luke 13:23 1Pe 3:20 who formerly were disobedient, when once the Divine longsuffering waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight souls, were saved through water. Nu 14:30 'Except for Caleb the son of Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun, you shall by no means enter the land which I swore I would make you dwell in. 1Ki 11:13 "However I will not tear away the whole kingdom; I will give one tribe to your son for the sake of my servant David, and for the sake of Jerusalem which I have chosen.“ Ezr 2:64 ¶ The whole assembly together was forty-two thousand three hundred and sixty, Lu 13:23 ¶ Then one said to Him, "Lord, are there few who are saved?" And He said to them,

6 The Hardening of Israel
God did not give them to understand - Deuteronomy 29:4 - Isaiah 6:9-10 (He did not desire their works) This prophetic issue was fulfilled in Christ - Matthew 13 Ro 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.

7 The Election of Grace What this is NOT saying: - God shows favoritism – Acts 10: God does not want to save all – 1 Tim. 2:4 - Salvation is not for all – Tit. 2:11 Ac 10:34 ¶ Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 "But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. Tit 2:11 ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

8 The Election of Grace God’s election is based on our obedience - Israel’s loss was DISOBEDIENCE - Seeking God by their own means Acts 10:35 "But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. Ac 10:34 ¶ Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 "But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. Tit 2:11 ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

9 Provocation to All Israel’s fall was necessary - The faults of the Law of Moses - Sacrifices - Priesthood - Their fall leads to Christ’s coming Ac 10:34 ¶ Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. 35 "But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. Tit 2:11 ¶ For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,

10 Provocation to All Israel’s fall was necessary Israel’s fall is a testimony of God - Disobedience results in separation - 1 Corinthians 10: Broken branches testify to the Vinedresser 1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

11 All Israel Will Be Saved
All – the whole, the fullness, the total Rom. 11:25 blindness in part has happened to Israel until the fullness of the Gentiles has come in Rom. 9:7 For they are not all Israel who are of Israel 1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

12 All Israel Will Be Saved
All Israel = All the Saved of all mankind Israel – Sarah El, Prince/Ruler as God 2 Tim. 2:12 If w e endure, we shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. Rev. 20:6 Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years. 1Co 10:11 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 12 Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

13 Conclusions There is no promise of a restored physical Israel The church did not “replace” Israel; Israel foreshadowed the church As Israel stumbled so we too (as congregations) fail Ro 2:13 for it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified.
