3 Scene i continued Juliet’s character (change=dynamic) The NEW Plan:
Assertive Line 36: She reclaims her face Line 20: Reminds Paris they’re not married Line 25: Reminds P. that she doesn’t have to confess to him, just to a priest Brave Lines 56/64: Ready to commit suicide (knife) Lines 79-89: Ready to go through things she used to “tremble” at Lines 124: Doesn’t hesitate at Friar’s fake death suggestion The NEW Plan: Lines : Friar gives her a potion to fake her death for 42 hours, during which she’ll be put in her family’s mausoleum where Romeo will come to take her out and escape (Friar will send for Romeo in a letter.)

4 Scene ii Juliet “apologizes” to her parents; ready to go through with the marriage Capulet moves the wedding up ANOTHER day (line 36) Creates suspense (Friar Lawrence’s plan needs to take place at the right time, but they’re running out of it.)

Considers the possibilities: Potion might not work (l. 22) Friar may be trying to kill her (l ) She may wake too early and suffocate (l. 36) She may go mad from terror (50-55) Sees Tybalt’s ghost chasing Romeo (56-58) and decides to drink the poison (59) Loyalty, bravery/courage, intelligence, foresight “Courage is not the absence of fear, but the judgment that there is something more important than fear.”
