3 COURSE SELECTION TIMELINE
Tuesday & Wednesday, February 5th & 6th * Counselors were in classrooms to help students log into their student portals and discuss the course selection process February 16th-February 26th * Students and parents enter course requests in student portal Tuesday, February 26th * Deadline for course selection worksheet to be returned to English teacher and courses entered in Portal Summer Months * Counselors work an abbreviated schedule * Follow guidelines on letter that is sent with schedule Friday, September 6th * Last day to make schedule changes

Course selections entered in computer Tallies determine number of sections needed Teacher availability aligned with courses Scheduling matrix used through SIS Scheduling constraints/considerations - Growing enrollment effect on class size

5 UPDATES FOR Additional information on Career Development programs AP Physics I- Algebra Based becomes AP Physics C: Mechanics CP Data Analysis & Coding becomes CP Computer Science PE Optional for seniors Juniors take 2x/cycle with health 3x/cycle Semester electives

6 COURSE SELECTION WORKSHEET
Students will use the worksheet to record selections & enter the requests into the student portal Students will give the sheet to their English teacher by February 26th Course requests will not be approved until worksheet is submitted Add alternates for electives in portal and on worksheet Schedule approximately credits Study halls should not be scheduled Choose carefully; not all changes can be honored

7 GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
25.1 Units of Credit English 4 Social Studies 4 Math 3 or 4 Science 3 or 4 Arts & Humanities 2 Health/Phys. Ed (min. 1.9 for class of 2020) Others 6 *Please note vo-tech students are required to have 3 math and 3 science credits and need 25.5 credits

8 COURSE LEVELS Applied/Introduction: coursework focuses on giving students real-world applications College Preparatory: coursework focuses on skill building, theory, and analysis to provide solid educational background for college entry Honors: increased rigor, faster pace, more independence expected Advanced Placement: college-level courses offered by the College Board

9 POINTS TO CONSIDER Make thoughtful decisions with your student
Balance the course load Think about rigor, growth, consistency and performance Read the course description, follow the prerequisites, and weigh the teacher recommendation heavily What are the future goals?
