Here’s what I expect you to do as a part of this class. When we all do these things we’ll have an awesome class! I will respond when my name is called. I will respond to polling prompts. I will ask and answer questions. I will complete class work, take notes, submit exit tickets. I will collaborate in groups if placed into breakout rooms. I will demonstrate respect for my classmates and teachers. Have students raise their hands to show that they agree w/ and understand the “Terms” Marking yourself “away” means you are not in class and will miss important parts of the lesson. EVERYONE needs a working mic. Call K12-care if it’s not working. Let’s get it fixed!

7 THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR Athens was starting to become bullies since they were the biggest city state. Sparta was jealous and wanted to have more themselves. Even though, The two city-states had a treaty of peace, tensions were boiling over and war became impossible to avoid.

8 THE PELOPONNESIAN WAR The Athenian leader Pericles had faith in the walls of Athens, as well as the “wooden walls”. What are the wooden walls?! Both sides attacked but it was a stalemate The Athenians took refuge inside their city walls

10 THE PLAGUE While taking refuge inside the city walls, people began to get extremely sick. People began to die by the hundreds…and then thousands. A third of the Athenian population died, including Pericles Video

11 THE FALL OF ATHENS Athens launches a great expedition across the Mediterranean Sea to the city-state of Syracuse (in present day Italy) The expedition was a disaster loss of thousands of men and hundreds of warships Sparta built its own navy and beat the Athenians in the waters of the Aegean Sea.

12 SPARTA IS VICTORIOUS! Sets up a 30 man oligarchy that came to be known as “The Thirty Tyrants” A year after the surrender of Athens the people overthrew the oligarchs and a shaky democracy returned to the humbled city of Athens.
