ACT Prep: Semicolon ( minutes) Proverb to Ponder (10 minutes) Lit Circles Group poster ( minutes) Gallery Walk and Reflection (25 minutes) CLO: Today you will, in writing and orally, determine the meaning of words and phrases in a text and its effects on the reader through literature circles and creating anchor charts displaying the information and effects using descriptive phrases such as: “The effect of the (proverb, folk tale, literary device, cultural component, character, etc.) on the reader is…”

Connect this proverb to you Make sense of this proverb by explaining the meaning or connecting it to your experiences 2. Connect this proverb to the church in chapters 16-17 Turn this in to the period basket by my desk

4 Literature circles Create poster as a WHOLE GROUP
Discuss your feature with the group Each feature from chapters should be on the poster Literary features Character development, Proverbs, Folk tales Cultural components Show the example, significance in book and/or effect on reader Gallery walk afterward (use notecatcher)

5 Gallery walk Use note-catcher to find one new example for each feature/component listed on the page. Write these down! Complete the reflection question and put this in your group folder; after group is finished, put folder in the basket “The effect of the (proverb, folk tale, literary device, cultural component, character, etc.) on the reader is…” Homework: Read chapters of Things Fall Apart, complete summary page due on 2/25/15
