5 The Great Gatsby: With a partner BUT… on your own Paper 1. Make a chart with 9 columns (one for each chapter). Find all the colors that are listed in chapter 1, 2, and 3. Write the page number where found and the sentence. What connotation does the color provide? You will keep this chart through the book. 2. Find an example of imagery, simile, and allusion in chapters 1-3. Remember, allusion is the reference to literature, mythology, the Bible, etc…. You will have 10 minutes to work on the following two activities. If you do not finish in class, you will need to finish at home.

6 The Great Gatsby Homework Finish anything from class. Read chapter 4. Find vocabulary words in text. Work on writing project.

7 The House on Mango Street Read pages 56-88 Draw a map of at least 5 places on Mango Street: character’s houses, apartments, stores, etc. You may also add other significant features of the neighborhood like pets, objects, trees, etc. Select one quotation from the novel for each building or feature of the street and copy it onto your map in a physically or symbolically appropriate location. (For example if I were talking about Esperanza’s house, I might write the quotation “It’s small and red with tight steps in front and windows so small you’d think they were holding their breath” (4) on the windows of the house.)

8 Vignette Choose 1 “Chapter” from your list and write an entry for your writing project. It needs to be 1 page. You will need to include 3 different literary devices we have discussed in class.
