1 Verbals

2 Participles Verbal that is used as an adjective and most often ends in –ing or –ed. Examples: The crying Sooner admitted defeat. Drinking her Dr. Pepper, she glared at the students. The student participating the most in class discussion often has the highest participation grade.

3 Gerund A verbal that ends in –ing and functions as a noun.
Traveling is one of the best things about AGS. Finding a needle in a haystack is easier than learning verbals. The test: Can you replace the gerund with the word “it”? Will not be separated from the sentence by commas.

4 Infinitive Verbal consisting of the word “to” plus a verb
Can function as a noun, adjective, or adverb To lie on the ground seemed silly, but Ms. Kelley was tired. They lacked the strength to resist the power of Mokiki. Katherine and her friends went to the mall to steal hundreds of pairs of shoes.
