2 Communication / Homework Binders
Homework binders should be returned daily. Communication “Front” Pocket– notes, lunch money in envelope, Gazette/MLES Newsletter, transportation changes (***NO transportation changes through , phone call or text. If you need to change transportation after your child has arrived at school, please call the office. No changes can be made after 2p.m.) Daily Reading – Please sign agenda nightly with the title of the book, the minutes read, and your initials. * Math Fact Fluency- 3 practice sheets: the first will be assessed weekly. Sight Words – Sight words will be tested at various times throughout the school year. The monthly homework sheet contains homework activities and spelling/vocabulary words. * “Practice” Spelling Test on Thursday night Behavior will be noted in the “Parent-Teacher Comments” section of the agenda. Please initial daily. Your child’s binder contains a copy of our 1st Grade Behavior Plan. Weekly Specials Rotation – Please refer to this page to see your child’s Special class each day. Homework “Back” Pocket– the homework packet is due on Friday. Homework should take minutes per night plus an extra 20 minutes of reading (return all reading books daily). Please log daily reading in your child’s agenda. Please review homework with your child. Please initial daily to acknowledge that you have seen your child’s behavior.

4 1st Grade Expectations and Goals
Individual Reading and Math Assessments– beginning, middle, and end of the year Dolch/Sight Words- 617 words by the end of the year Oral Reading Fluency– 60 WPM (words per minute). 30 Book Goal Math Computation – 37 (final score)

5 Grading Grading Scale: A: 90-100 B: 80-89 C: 71-79 D: 70 F: Below 70
Graded Papers Folder – keep graded papers and sign & return the folder. Progress/Report Card Envelope– keep the report card and sign and return the envelope.

7 Cumulative Assessments
Common District Assessments (CDA) will be administered throughout the year. DRA Testing will be administered throughout the year to track your child’s reading levels. AIMSWeb and Sight Word testing will be administered multiple times a year. The next couple of weeks there will be LOTS of testing in 1st Grade. Please keep this in mind when your child brings home several worksheets. Once testing is complete, there will not be as many worksheet activities.
