Spanish found Muslims on the island of Mindanao, they where labeled as pirates. Kingdoms' looked to Islam to counter the powerful Christians.

Portuguese favored this port, because it led to a great fall in business for Kilwa and Mombasa ports. Portugal Power suffered a bad loss when the Arabs of Oman captured their Arabian fortress at Musqat, then went on to capture the Portuguese capital in East Africa, Mombasa.

Once they captured the Portuguese Fort and Capital of the area, they began to open up their trading. Had better relations with the native people of the land. The mixing of the diverse languages, culture, and people form the Swahili culture that is there today. Islam was spread to Sudan in this time although the people of the Swahili coast had no contact with them.

Spain and Portugal had both captured forts in Morocco and where planning to start shipping out of them. The Sa’adi Family led a resistance against them; they won at the battle of al-Qasr al-Kabir in 1578. Ahmad al-Mansur, the sultan, brought the lands independence back. By the 17th century British records state that “the Sally Rovers” came from the port of Sale, and sacked Europeans ships as far as Britain itself.

8 Fighting for the Best The Portuguese had many strategic island ports in the East Indies. Through the Dutch East India Company, the Dutch captured many of these ports for their self. While the Portuguese focused on the spice trade, the Dutch focused on the islands that produce the spices. The Dutch took all of Portugal's towns besides Ambon and Timor.

10 New Methods Once other countries started to notice the Dutch’s tactic at being so successful in the trade, they began to do it too. Once this occurred in the 18th century, the Dutch began to produce the demanded products on their conquered territory. The Dutch also located a group of strong winds that blow between 40 and 50 degrees latitude year round. They named these winds the “ Roarin’ Forties” and they pushed Dutch ships to Australia.
