What is Network Management?
It’s about more than the network Service delivery is critical Strategic asset for ensuring the network supports the company and its initiatives Network management is more than about the nuts and bolts of running the network. Service delivery is critical and the network is key to supporting applications and the overall business.
8
Understand the Business Impact
How is the business affected? View by application or functional department Who and What is Impacted? Applications, users, devices Visual Correlation – All in one console Physical and logical topology Root cause Traffic flow analysis Virtual servers and switches Configuration management and change monitoring Related to prior slide. Can help to fill out the story of how important the network is to the business and what a good NMS has to offer.
9
IT Objectives Minimize cost of tools and resources
Increase availability Expand visibility Risk mitigation Faster problem resolution Rapid time to value Prove organizational value of IT Certain IT objectives must be met to ensure high availability and performance so that end users have a great experience and can stay productive.
10
Enterprise NMS Considerations
Factors for NMS selection Architecture Consolidation Scalability Automation Ease-of-Use Heterogeneous Environments Multiple Platforms Deep, Accessible, Integrated Data Actionable Reporting 3rd Party Integrations Security 7x24 Operation These are all NMS considerations, and Entuity offers all of these, but the key differentiator is our architecture, which we’ll discuss shortly.
11
Why Entuity Wins One product to manage network
Role-based, multi-tenant. Easy to install, deploy, learn. Automated Architected to reduce amount of work needed to manage network. Deliver Deep, Broad, Easily Accessible Data Timely, synchronized, integrated. Automated and accurate. Export & analyze any way you want to. This and next slide are important for providing a brief overview as to the key reasons why Entuity wins against the competition. The points can be moved through fairly rapidly. Some of our competitors make a few of these claims (which can be acknowledged), especially “single pane of glass,” but our unique architecture, which comes up in the next slides, underpin these benefits and explains why Entuity is architected specifically to handle the challenges faced by enterprise networks.
12

Architecture How Do We Do It?
Our architecture enables us to deliver everything covered in prior slides and why Entuity is a superior network management solutions over our competitors. None of our competitors offer anything like it. Entuity is the only truly unified network management solution because of our architecture. Our competitors cannot make this claim because their underlying architectures simply are not built for modern networks in mind, which undergo continual change. (See slide 10 notes for more points.)
18
Entuity Architecture—Three Pillars
These are Entuity’s three architectural pillars. They provide a great overview of how our architecture works and explain why we can make the claims that we do—agility, all-in-one, easy to scale, easy to learn, boosts operational efficiency, and more. These three are key to everything. All-in-One: One product for network management, including physical and virtual devices. Layer of abstraction shields users and administrators from underlying complexity of the architecture. No messing with integrations—everything works together transparently. Federated Architecture: Unlimited scalability AND easy too because you link the servers together and they know how to communicate with each other automatically. Uniform Data Schema: Data schema of each database embedded in Entuity servers is identical Allows for distributed data processing and optimized I/O load across Entuity servers, while simultaneously presenting multiple databases as one logical, global database that administrators and users can automatically access from any server. Improves I/O and scalability and delivers timely, accurate data.
19
As opposed to… Multiple products with distinct: Servers Databases
Internal architectures Deployment requirements GUIs Administrative tasks Reporting Here are a few talking points around legacy solutions offered by our competitors. Legacy solutions consist of multiple unintegrated or loosely integrated products (hodgepodge), created or acquired over time, each of which covers one core discipline, such as topology, flow, performance, or fault. Each product has its own GUI, deployment and scalability requirements, database etc., which means that each must be handled independently. The various pieces must be initially integrated and then continually reintegrated to keep them in sync. They offer only surface level integrations, so very little intelligence is passed between them. (i.e., cross functional cooperation or sharing of data). They’re fragile systems with many “moving parts” each needing a busload of staff or consultants to maintain and scale. A so-called consolidation layer can make the products appear somewhat unified, but actually increases complexity by adding yet another product that must be integrated and separately maintained. They’ll do the job, but at what cost? If you’re afraid to touch anything and it’s getting prohibitively expensive to keep the system alive, you need to change. These systems are not architected for today’s networks or to grow with them.

Entuity at Work “Entuity monitors the network in real time, and it has allowed us to keep customer satisfaction at high levels by giving them deep insight into what’s happening on the network. We’re impressed with Entuity’s capabilities and believe its well-designed architecture suits our business model very well.” Matt Whitaker Service Management Centre Senior Engineer Tait Communications Let’s move on to business focus, requirement 3. With the importance of the network to the business, there are now more and more people—especially management-- outside of IT that have a stake in a highly available, high performance. Is this what your going to tell management when they ask how the network is supporting the business? With Entuity, you don’t have to. Entuity offers a comprehensive set of reports and dashboards that cater directly to the needs of a business oriented audience. Let’s talk about those. Next slide…

Entuity at Work “The improvements to topology maps in Entuity 16 really stand out for us. We’ve used them for a long time for monitoring and troubleshooting with a lot of success, but the changes in this latest release bring them to a whole new level. The visibility is deeper, the features are richer and easier to use, and the performance is lighting fast. I can easily see us expanding our use of them for more proactive management.” Stegen Smith Sr. Network Engineer Adobe Systems Let’s move on to business focus, requirement 3. Fine tune your network for the best application performance
Discover exact application path through network in < 30 seconds! Tune the actual parts of the network (L2/L3) that support your critical applications Set a “reference” path and be alerted of deviations Proactively monitor application paths SurePath Realtime Application Path Analysis Software In addition to its flagship network management solution, Entuity offers SurePath, a powerful, low overhead software solution that shows you the actual network paths (layers 2 and 3) your applications are using to travel across the network in less than 30 seconds. With this knowledge you can tune the actual parts of the network that support your critical applications, set a preferred path as a “reference” and be alerted in case of a deviation (a potential cause of performance issues), and proactively monitor application paths. An optional integration with Entuity Network Management lets you set up automatically monitored “services” for the path/application dependency.
