Part of an organization’s management system used to develop and implement its environmental policy and manage its environmental aspects

7 Environmental Aspects
Establish, implement and maintain procedure (s) to Identify environmental aspects (activities, products, services) Identify significant aspects

8 Legal and Other Requirements
Establish, implement and maintain procedure (s) to Identify and have access to applicable legal and other requirements related with environmental aspects Determine how these requirements apply to its environmental aspects

9 Objectives, Targets and Programmes
Establish, implement and maintain documented environmental objectives and targets Measurable where practicable, consistent with the policy Commitment to prevention of pollution, compliance with applicable legal and other requirements and continual improvement Establish, implement and maintain programme (s) for achieving objectives and targets Programme will have designation of responsibilities Means and time frame


11 Resource, Roles, Responsibility and Authority
Management shall ensure the availability of resources Human resources, specialized skills, organizational infrastructure, technology and financial resources Roles, responsibilities and authority shall be defined, documented and communicated Top management shall appoint a specific management representative (s) He will ensure EMS implementation He will report to top management on the performance of EMS

12 Competence, Training and Awareness
Trained Workforce for EMS Roles and responsibilities Environmental policy, significant aspects and related impacts Identify training needs

13 Communication With regard to environmental aspects and environmental management system, organization shall establish, implement and maintain procedures for Internal communication among various levels and functions of the organization Receiving, documenting and responding to relevant communication from external interested parties Organization will decide whether to communicate externally its significant aspects or not. Document the decision. If yes, then establish and implement method for this communication.

14 Documentation Environmental policy, objectives and targets
Scope of the EMS Description of main elements of EMS and their interaction and reference to related documents Documents including records required by the standard Documents and record, decided by the organization for effective planning, operation and control of processes related with significant aspects

15 Control of Documents Organization shall establish, implement and maintain a procedure (s) to Approve documents prior to issue Review and update and re-approve Ensure changes and current revision status of documents are identified Ensure that relevant versions of applicable documents are available Ensure that documents remain legible and readily identifiable Prevent the unintended use of obsolete documents

16 Operational Control Organization shall identify and plan those operations associated with significant aspects in order to ensure that these are operating under controlled conditions Establish, implement and maintain a documented procedure to control Operating criteria In case of goods and services significant aspects, procedures will be communicated to suppliers and contractors

17 Emergency Preparedness and Response
Organization shall establish, implement and maintain procedure to identify and respond potential emergency situations and potential accidents. Organization shall respond to emergency and prevent/mitigate its impacts Revise or modify the procedure after the occurrence of emergency or accident Test the procedure


19 Monitoring and Measurement
Organization shall establish, implement and maintain procedure to monitor and measure, on a regular basis, the key characteristics of its operations that can have significant environmental impacts Procedure includes documenting information to monitor performance, operational controls and conformity with objectives and targets Ensure that calibrated equipments are used “If you can’t measure, you can’t manage.”

20 Evaluation of Compliance
Procedure for periodically evaluating compliance with the applicable laws and other requirements Keep records of the results of the periodic evaluation

21 Nonconformity, Corrective Action & Preventive Action
Organization shall establish, implement and maintain procedure for dealing nonconformities and for taking corrective action. Procedure will include Identifying and correcting nonconformity and taking action Investigation and determining their causes and taking actions to avoid their recurrence Record the results of corrective actions and preventive actions taken Reviewing the effectiveness of corrective and preventive actions taken

22 Control of Records Organization shall establish and maintain records as necessary to demonstrate conformity to the requirements of EMS Establish, implement and maintain procedure for identification, storage, protection, retrieval, retention and disposal of records Records shall be and remain legible, identifiable and traceable

23 Internal Audit Ensure that internal audit is conducted at planned intervals To determine whether EMS conforms with the planning and international standard Properly implemented and maintained Provide results to the management

24 Management Review Top management will review the EMS at planned intervals to ensure its continuing suitability, adequacy and effectiveness Reviews shall include assessing opportunities for improvement and need for changes to the EMS (Environmental policy, objectives/targets/programs Records of the meeting will be kept
