3. The Basics
These are the minimum requirements for graduation from Brookside
4 credits of English
4 credits of Math
MUST take Algebra 2 or its equivalent
4 credits of Science
1 credit of Biology A and B
1 credit of Physical Science A and B

4. The Basics 4 credits of Social Studies
1 credit of World History A and B
1 credit of US History A and B
1 credit of American Government A and B
½ credit of Health
½ credit of PE or Alternate PE for sports
Financial Literacy (Included in Government B)
Electives: combination of Business, Technology, Fine Arts, Foreign Language, and Career Technical
1 credit in fine arts (7th-12th grades)

6. ACADEMIC Honors Diploma
These are the requirements for graduation with an Honors Diploma (for class of 2011 and beyond)
3.5 GPA or better
27 or better on ACT / 1280 SAT
4 credits of English
4 credits of Math
4 credits of Science

7. Academic Honors Diploma
6. 4 credits of Social Studies
3 credits of the same Foreign Language (or 2 years each French and Spanish)
1 credit of Fine Arts
Students must meet 7 of the 8 requirements listed above

8. Diploma of Distinction
Eligibility criteria for a student to receive this diploma are as follows:
By the end of the 3rd quarter of the student‘s senior year the student must have completed 50 hours of approved and documented community service
Achieved a 2.60 or better cumulative grade point average

9. Diploma of Distinction
Community Service: WHAT COUNTS, WHAT DOESN’T
1. Students must perform volunteer services on their own time.
2. Students may not be paid for service rendered.
3. Volunteer service involving academic requirements for a class will not count.
4. Fundraising for non-profit organizations or charities will count.
5. Service may not be performed for a student’s family or for a profit-making organization, except for institutions like hospitals, nursing homes, or the humane society without prior permission from the Guidance Department.
6. Service performed as a result of disciplinary action taken by the school or courts cannot count.

10. Diploma of Distinction
Examples of community service:
Organize a local park clean-up
Assist an elderly family member or friend with house-work or yard-work (permission required)
Engage in church related or youth group activities that involve community service projects
Collecting food for a local food bank
Volunteer services at local schools, the humane society, and hospitals
Tutor students younger than yourself
Organize a community based fundraiser such as a toy or clothing drive
Boy Scout or Girl Scout sponsored service projects

11. Athletic and Club Eligibility
You must have 5 credits (in the immediately preceding grading period)
BHS Class = .5 (not PE)
GPA 1.5 for the immediately preceding 9 weeks
Questions see the Athletic Director
NCAA Clearinghouse Form is required for students who want to be eligible for athletic scholarships in Division I or II (Fill out at the beginning of your junior year.)

This year THINK March 22nd because April 1st is the MONDAY AFTER Spring Break!!!!
Parent MUST have attended a MANDATORY Meeting
Receive BOTH high school and college credit
Cardinal College has a pathway to earn 15/30/Associate’s degree
Advantages of staying a BHS
No transportation required
Fits better with BHS schedule
BHS staff member is the adjunct LCCC professor

4-year college ~COLLEGE CORE
4 credits of English
4 credits of Math (Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry)Higher level math encouraged in Senior Year
3 credits of Science (Biology and Advanced Sciences….Chemistry/Physics)
3 credits of Social Studies
2/3 credits of the same Foreign Language
1 credit of Fine Arts

Use curriculum guide found on Guidance Website to look over course offerings and prerequisites
Select your electives and ALTERNATES
Remember if you failed a course that is a graduation requirement you still need to take it …….replaces an elective!!!!
High school students : Meet with counselor in Room 416 to go over credit check and receive recommendations
EVERYONE will course select on the computer
Course selections take home for parent review. Return forms ONLY if parents want changes to your selection.
