We need a model that will work for a mass medium! What’s that?

13 What’s a Mass Medium? A medium that can deliver a message to a large number of people simultaneously! What’s a large number of people? What’s simultaneously? Sorry but there is no one definition of “mass medium.” But we do have a good model that applies to many situations.

Surveillance….gathering information. Decision making….based on surveillance you make a decision to take some action. Social and cultural interaction….we use information to define, identify and keep membership in groups. Groups are defined by the information they believe is true!

28 5 ways contd….. Self understanding…..We see ourselves in the media. We identify and relate to others by seeing and hearing them in the media. Diversion…..plain and simple ……. ENTERTAINMENT!
