6. Introduction Hook Thesis
Relationships should be built on love and trust, not deceit and the interest of others. In the novel, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, the Fisher family experiences what it means to be a family. Through the tribulations and choices that each family member makes tries to help Paul come closer to discovering why he cannot see. His brother Erik seems to be the one with all the answers and as Paul comes soon realizes, all is not as it seems. Through Erik’s harmful choices, Paul encounters a truth that helps him move forward. and discover his own identity.

Do you mention the consequences of that choice throughout the novel?

Label the transition, lead-in, quote of your proof as well as your parenthetical citation.
Does your Lead-in mention the book, author or character?
Paul decides, “we’re not going home, Wayne. We’re going back out to the Tomas Cruz Groves. Can you take us?” (216).

9. Body: Commentary Highlight your COMMENTARY in YELLOW.
Do you connect the proof back to the statement and explain to the reader how the evidence impacts Paul and give examples to how it has impacted him.
In the novel, Paul has always been afraid to do what he wanted and never felt like he belonged. When he decides to go to the Groves to help, he learns that in order to maintain relationships, people need to step out of their comfort zone. It is important to put yourself out there and do what you believe is right.
