4 Structure Number your paragraphs Number your TLQs
Do you have at least 5 paragraphs or more? If yes, then you are good. If not, then you need to look back at your outline and revise adding in the missing section. Number your TLQs Do you have at least 6? If yes, then you should have enough PROOF. If not, do more research and find examples that support the paragraph.

5 Introduction Does your introduction include a hook?
Connect to your main idea of the paper Lures your reader in Does your introduction include background information that introduces the reader to the topic? 6 Introduction Hook Thesis
Relationships should be built on love and trust, not deceit and the interest of others. In the novel, Tangerine, by Edward Bloor, the Fisher family experiences what it means to be a family. Through the tribulations and choices that each family member makes tries to help Paul come closer to discovering why he cannot see. His brother Erik seems to be the one with all the answers and as Paul comes soon realizes, all is not as it seems. Through Erik’s harmful choices, Paul encounters a truth that helps him move forward. and discover his own identity. Thesis

7 Body Paragraphs: Statement
Highlight your STATEMENT in green. Do you tell the reader a choice that the character has made? Is only one choice being stated as opposed to multiple choices? Do you mention the consequences of that choice throughout the novel?

8 Body: Textual Evidence
Highlight your PROOF in PINK. Label the transition, lead-in, quote of your proof as well as your parenthetical citation. Does your Lead-in mention the book, author or character? Paul decides, “we’re not going home, Wayne. We’re going back out to the Tomas Cruz Groves. Can you take us?” (216).

9 Body: Commentary Highlight your COMMENTARY in YELLOW.
Do you connect the proof back to the statement and explain to the reader how the evidence impacts Paul and give examples to how it has impacted him. In the novel, Paul has always been afraid to do what he wanted and never felt like he belonged. When he decides to go to the Groves to help, he learns that in order to maintain relationships, people need to step out of their comfort zone. It is important to put yourself out there and do what you believe is right.

10 Conclusion Does your restated THESIS contain the same ideas as your original? Be sure to answer the prompt What have you learned from writing the analysis? Do you interpret what Bloor was tring to do? Explain your reasoning and be sure to use references to the text and your essay. Do you move into a Universal idea? What is the theme of your paper? How does that apply to the outside world? Conclude it with a connection to the book.

12 Style Does the writer use a variety of diction?
Circle any empty words or heavily repeated words. Doe the writer use a variety of transitions? Circle the transition words.

13 Register Does the writer stay in a FORMAL register?
Does the writer stay in third person? Circle ALL “you”, “I”, “me”, “us”; anything in first or second person. Does the writer stay away from contractions? Circle all the contractions that are used. Does the writer use any slang words or clichés?

14 Mechanics Were TRANSITIONS used other than in the TLQ?
Check for spelling. Mark any misspelled words. Check for punctuation errors. Mark errors in punctuation.
