1 Undulator Controls Breakout
4/13/2019 Undulator Controls Breakout Josh Stein LCLS Undulator Controls CAM/TL Test

2 UCM Software is 90% complete
4/13/2019 Good Things UCM Software is 90% complete With the talent at SLAC I’m confident that - if we had to - the software could be delivered right now UCMI Translation interlock working EIA design is complete Many components delivered and waiting assembly Blah blah blah - this isn’t important now Test

3 Worrisome things - UCMI
4/13/2019 Worrisome things - UCMI UCMI Design flaws Motor wiring reversed including power and communications Possible motor damage Breaking news: 3 motor damaged Requires board revision Not that bad as we were going to change the board to accommodate changes recommended by FDR committee These changes prevent us from finalizing design and going out for bid Test

4 Worrisome things - UCMPS
UCMPS Design not complete Initial “it’s an easy thing to do” design not inspiring confidence Uses open-frame supplies for 42V and 24V encased within a 19” rack mount chassis Fuses blowing with no-load Strange “warm start” observed on 24V supply UCMI was pulling too much current on startup - larger capacity supply to replace current one 4 week lead time for internal components Budget has not been approved for this design effort or M&S “Slipped through cracks” after UCM redesign. Current effort is unfunded SLAC engineering assistance?

5 Worrisome things - VME Crates
4/13/2019 Worrisome things - VME Crates VME Crate delivery schedule Vendor claims first shipment of 12 units will go out mid February with two more deliveries planned over 2 months Need device support and/or documentation for the SLAC supplied unit to allow us remote reboot/power cycling Test

6 Worrisome things - Rack assemblies
Rack preparations A/C power entry needs to be nailed down 3/4” penetration settled on via teleconference New doors ordered Work-flow for populating and testing completed racks has begun but has stalled due to difficulties in LTT What about SLAC installed components in this rack? Network transceiver Console Crating and shipping options needs to be nailed down Probably will re-use a portion of the original shipping containers Delivery options - preference vs. cost savings? One single delivery? 2-3 medium-sized shipments?

7 Worrisome things - Translation stages
4/13/2019 Worrisome things - Translation stages Motor limit connections need to be specified Right-angle connector on downstream linear potentiometer oriented incorrectly Claimed “skew limit” of 50 microns(!) - need for empirical testing with mechanical engineering assistance UCM FDR review comments for limit switch and actuator design need addressing Alignment/calibration procedure for linear potentiometers needed How to find “home”? Test

8 Worrisome things - Translation Stages
How to adjust limits? Need tolerance numbers Current set-screw method seems cumbersome How to test skew interlock? Calibrated shims Potential flex in actuator?

9 Worrisome things - Translation Stages

10 Worrisome things - BFW I have some notes on possibly adding another switch to the BFW actuator position for use by the MPS

11 Worrisome things - UCM Handoff
4/13/2019 Worrisome things - UCM Handoff UCM Documentation Calibration procedures Linear slides Cam movers BFW RTDs Uncrate checkout Installation checks Run the system in the tunnel Commissioning checks Test

12 Worrisome things - BLM Vague milestones
4/13/2019 Worrisome things - BLM Vague milestones Budget for APS/CTLS effort not approved - currently working unfunded Test
