2 story structure Literary element that is generally described as the structural framework that underlies the order and manner in which a narrative is presented to a reader, listener, or viewer; contains the plot and setting

3 flashback An interruption in the narrative order to show an event that happened earlier. Flashbacks usually give background on a character or event and show how the past influenced a character.

4 science fiction Fantasy that takes the reader into an imaginary environment and time, often the future

5 rising action A related series of incidents in a literary plot that build toward the greatest point of interest

6 climax The most intense, or exciting point of something; peak; pinnacle

7 intonation the rise and fall in the voice of speaking

8 advertisement something that is shown or presented to the public to help sell a product or make an announcement

9 root the basic source or origin of something

10 expository text explains the nature of something, such as an object, idea, or theme in the real world

11 propaganda spreading of information in order to influence public opinion and to manipulate other people’s beliefs
