1 Magnets Vocabulary

2 magnet A magnet is a piece of iron that can attract other iron-containing materials.

3 Magnets have 2 poles – a North Pole and a South Pole.

4 poles Opposite poles of magnets attract. Same poles of magnets repel.

5 Opposite poles of magnets attract or pull together.

6 Same poles of magnets repel or push apart.

7 Opposite poles of magnets attract or pull together

8 Same poles of magnets repel or push apart.

9 force Force is the push or pull that you feel when magnets are held close together. This force pulls magnets together or pushes magnets apart. You also feel the force of the pull if a magnetic object is pulled to the magnet.

10 Objects that contain iron are attracted to a magnet.

11 Objects that do not contain iron are not attracted to a magnet.
