Please come in and look at the roster sheet on the front table. Please sit in the seat that has the same number as your name. While you are waiting for class to begin, think about this week’s EQ (Essential Question): “Why study Spanish?”

8 Be prepare for class Bring pencils, erasers, pens, paper, and your Spanish binder! You don’t need to bring your textbook. We have a classroom set.

9 Going to the restroom Restroom business should be addressed between class periods. Wait for a transition to ask. Ask in Spanish “¿puedo ir al baño?” Write a pass. You should be back to class in 5 minutes. No restroom during dead time.

10 If you are finished with your work
Take your vocabulary paper and study your words Offer to help others with the work

13 Grading Categories Formative Assessments (15%) Formative Assessments include daily practice & exercises, classwork, homework, rough drafts Summative Assessments (30%) Summative Assessments include vocabulary, grammar, listening & speaking quizzes Formal Evaluations (40%) Formal Evaluations include presentations, projects, and unit tests Final Exam (15%) Final Exam includes listening, speaking, reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, & culture Student Growth Measurement (SGM)               SGMs are a Cobb County mandated pre-test and post-test used to show student                growth over the course of the semester that are given in non-EOC classes.               The post-SGM is included as a Formal Evaluation grade.

14 Class expectations & Information
Make-up Policy & Restrictions When a student is absent, students are allowed the number of days absent, plus one day to turn in ALL missed work. It is the student’s responsibility to schedule make-up appointments for quizzes and tests within the grace period before or after school. Homework Completed homework is due at the beginning of class. NO late work will be accepted, unless it’s an excused absence. It will be assigned at various times throughout the week. Completed assignments will receive participation stamps on a homework grid. Once 5 assignments have been given, this grid will be collected and a homework grade will be assigned. Each assignment = 10 points (4/5= 40pts  80%)

Extra Credit? NO extra credit work will be given to substitute or take the place of another grade. Please note: If final grades are on the border (69, 79, 89, etc.) they will NOT be adjusted/bumped up to the next letter grade.  Hall Passes Students will get a Hall pass anytime they will be out of my classroom. Passes will not be given during “dead” time, 15 minutes after class begins and 15 minutes before class ends.

Late Work Without Absence If a student comes to class without a graded assignment on the day it is due, the following point deductions will apply: One day late - 11 percentage points are deducted Two days late - 21 percentage points are deducted Three days late - 31 percentage points are deducted Four or more days late – No work may be turned in for credit. A permanent grade of zero will be assigned. For work that is turned in late within the 3-day, point-deduction period, the assignment will be graded as normal, and the appropriate number of percentage points will then be deducted from their assignment’s grade according to days late.

17 Classroom Expectations
1. Be attentive Follow handbook guidelines. 2. Be courteous. 7. Participate often. 3. Be prepared. 8. Respect others, yourself, & the classroom. 4. Be responsible. 9. Stay seated until dismissed. 5. Be punctual Speak Spanish! Remember… Only bottled water is allowed in the classroom, unless it’s for a designated food project. Selling fundraiser items must take place between classes. Please refer to the student agenda regarding all school and county policies. No electronic devices permitted…whatsoever, not even an option!!!!

18 For most offenses the consequences are as follows:
1st Verbal warning rd Detention; Call Home; Conference 2nd Call Home; Conference 4th Administrative Referral  The teacher reserves the right to change consequences as needed based upon the severity of the individual situation. Disrespect of any kind for any reason will result in an immediate referral.
