2 Words to Know! NUTRITION - is the science that studies how body makes use of food. DIET - is everything you eat and drink. NUTRIENTS - are the substances in food.

3 The Process of Satisfying Hunger
You need energy You feel hungry You eat to get rid of hunger You feel satisfied You need more energy The cycle repeats again

4 Six Nutrients Carbohydrates- should be the body’s main source of energy. Protein- used to build body cells and tissue Fat- source of energy and helps protect nerve endings

5 Six Nutrients Continued
Minerals- elements found in food that are necessary for good health. Vitamins- organic compounds that control several body functions. Water- helps transport the nutrients from food and get rid of waste.

6 Nutrition Digestion- the process of breaking down food into a form the body can use. Fiber-found in certain foods. Helps with digestion Calorie- the amount of energy from food Dietary Guidelines- suggestion on how people should eat. MyPyramind- food guidance system
