2 What is the EB’s job? To carry out the laws of the land.
The EB is made up of people, organizations and agencies that help the president carry out laws. They’re part of a bureaucracy (multi-layered organization).

3 President’s Qualifications
35 years old A natural born citizen. Resident of US for at least any 14 years of their lives.

4 Election and terms Pres. is elected by Electoral College Presidential term is 4 years. Pres. Is limited to 2 terms or a max of 10 years.

5 Powers and Roles of the Pres.
Veto: can reject laws Command: military forces Make treaties with foreign countries Grant Pardons (forgiveness for a crime) Enforce laws Appoint officials

6 Executive Privilege: The pres. doesn’t have to tell congress everything they know, or turn over information, about matters they consider top secret. EP doesn’t apply if a court requests information for an investigation or trial.

7 Checks and balances to limit pres. power
Congress can override a president’s veto. Approve or reject programs recommended by the pres. Setting guidelines Creating or eliminated departments Approval of pres. Appoints: diplomats, judges, cabinet members, etc.

8 Presidential Succession:
What happens if the president can no longer serve? The VP becomes president Speaker of the house President Pro Tempore of Senate Secretary of the State…

9 The Cabinet and Agencies
The Executive branch is made up of people who advise the president on domestic (in country) and foreign (out of country) policy The Cabinet is an important group of policy advisors who make suggestions about how to run the govt. and what actions to take. There are 15 cabinet posts. There are also agencies that carry out the work of running the govt: Executive agencies (NASA), Independent Regulatory Commissions , Govt. Corporations (post office)
