1 Film and Literature Project 1

2

3 New Sherlock Holmes(es)
Look over the pictures of various Holmeses from past TV & film With a partner (or small group), choose 3 to compare and contrast What looks good/does not look good about these representations? Can they be convincing to an audience? Which audience? What is one other possible way to represent Holmes & Watson?

4 What is a movie review? A movie review is a summary & opinion piece about a film the reviewer has seen Reviews are read as guides to what is/isn’t worth watching (and spending $ on)

5 How do I write a movie review?
Movie reviews – like most writing – generally in 3 parts Introduction Mention name, genre, and a couple of necessary details (actor/director/any key details) Indicate that it’s based on a book (title, author) Summarize (briefly) the story elements (characters, setting, plot) Body Talk about what you liked/didn’t like about the movie (actors’ performance, effects, storyline, etc.) What can you “takeaway” (benefit) from watching this movie? How does the movie compare with the novel? Faithful to the original story? Changed in any significant way? Conclusion As good as/better than/worse than the novel? Who might enjoy this movie? Rating? – Can choose your own system (stars / out of 10 / thumbs, whatever…) Final thoughts about the film?
