3 Book Report Guidelines

4 Format n Be sure to follow THIS format for writing your report.

5 n Book report must be on white paper. n Write or type in blue or black ink. n If type written, the font size should be 14. n The report is to be written on one side of the paper only. n The report must be in a clear report cover.

6 Use the title of the book as a heading for the title page of your report. Insert a picture related to the title of the book. Write the following information on the bottom right- hand corner of the title page. n Student Name n Grade Level n Subject n Date Title Page

7 Paragraph Form This report must be written in paragraph form. Don’t forget to have a topic sentence and to include supporting details. Be absolutely sure you indent each paragraph.

9 Section # 1 n Name of book n The author n Other books you have read by the author. n What you enjoyed about the book.

10 Section #2 n Name and describe the major characters. Describe them and explain how they are important to the story. Give your opinion of each one you listed. n This must be written in paragraph form. n You must have a separate paragraph for each major character.

11 n Body: n Give the plot of the story…the plot explains what the major character attempts to do: n to discover, to overcome, to adapt, to learn, to find, to become, to mature, to solve, or to conquer. n How are the final problems solved? How does everything work out? What is the final attitude of the main character (s)?

12 Section #4 n Write about the most interesting part of the story.

13 Section # 5 n Write about the saddest, worst, most frightening, etc. part of the story.

14 Section # 6 n Who should read this book? n Why should they read it? n How difficult was it to read? n What age group should read it? n Explain why you like or dislike the book. n Would you recommend this book to a friend?

15 Section #7 n Briefly conclude by pulling your thoughts together. You may want to say what impression the book left you with, or emphasize what you want your reader to know about it.

16 Your book report will be graded for content and sentence structure, spelling and grammar, paragraph structure, and neatness. GRADE

17 Definitions n Glossary: Define ten unfamiliar or challenging words in the novel.

18 Book reports must be your own work. Do not copy from another person or a book.

20 n Don’t wait until the last minute to start your report. n Read and summarize one or two chapters a night. n Put forth your best effort.
