Introduction Daintree Rainforest
The Daintree National Park is the site of the oldest living rainforest on earth. It is the only place in the world where two World Heritage-listed sites meet. The Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. The Daintree National Park is split up of two sections and is easily accessed by visitors! Mossman Gorge in the South and the area of Daintree Village and Cape Tribulation in the North. The crystal-clear waters of the Mossman River cascade over boulders in Mossman Gorge. While Cape Tribulation features rainforest-clad mountains that sweep down to long sandy beaches. N

Weather Daintree climate is tropical all year with maximum temp of 32 C in the summer and 25 C in the winter. Most of all pack lightly - at 16 degrees south of the Equator, the weather in the Daintree is like Tahiti.. During the cooler, dry season the days are balmy and the evenings pleasantly cool ( degrees Celsius). Summertime, or the green season, means warmer days and restorative rain. The rainforest revitalises itself and the streams are replenished.

Cassowary The Cassowary has Gondwanaland origins when Australia had alot more rain forest . in new guinea there are two different types of species and they both live for about 50 years Despite being a bird, the Cassowary is Australia’s largest land animal. It normally weighs about 60kg , but the heaviest recorded was 83kg. Its eggs are the third largest of all birds at an average 584g Even though it is large and colourful, it can be hard to see in the rainforest. At close quarters it may be quite frightening. The Cassowary has powerful legs and if scared worried or in a fight may kick. there toes can easily rip flesh so the Cassowary is capable of killing humans The Southern Cassowary is a large, flightless bird that is endemic to the tropical rainforests of Far North Queensland. It is one of the largest birds in the world – only the emu and ostrich are taller and only the ostrich is heavier.

Cunjevoi All parts of this plant are poisonous, including the rhizome. Red fruits are produced which are juicy and sweet smelling, but contain a highly toxic poison. Has large spade shaped leaves which are soft green in colour and form a clump one to one and a half metres in height. This plant grows in wet or poorly drained areas in rainforests and adjacent areas. Is found in Australia and throughout South East Asia.

Natural Disasters Out of the possible natural disasters in Australia, the Daintree rainforest is most likely to be hit by a cyclone. Its not a flood because rainforests absorbs water. So this is what people think after the hit.
