Wellness has three components: Physical health Mental/emotional health Social health

3 The Wellness Components
The three components of wellness are connected together like the sides of a triangle. Physical Health Social Health Mental & Emotional Health

4 Physical health refers to having a healthy and well functioning body.
Being physically healthy means having enough energy to carry out everyday activities. Eating healthy, exercising, getting enough sleep, and practicing good hygiene habits help with staying physically healthy.

5 Physical Health Depends on:
Balanced Diet Daily Exercise Enough sleep Good hygiene practices Avoiding Diseases & Drugs NO

6 Social Health Social health involves
getting along with parents, siblings, friends, teachers… making and keeping friends giving and receiving support and help Communicating needs to others Respecting other’s rights

7 Getting Along… Why is it sometimes hard to get along with people?
What makes it hard to talk to our parents? What do you like in a friend? What does it mean to Give/receive “support?”

8 Mental & Emotional Health
Mental health involves all of our emotions and feelings… How we feel about ourselves How we handle day-to-day demands of life, pressure, stress… How we recognize our achievements and learn from our mistakes

9 Stress Stress is body’s response to changes around us. Stress can be good or bad! Positive stress helps us reaching goals Negative stress prevents us from doing our best and can cause discomfort.

10 Peer Pressure Peer pressure is pressure from friends or classmates to behave in a certain way which can effect social health. Peer pressure can be good or bad  when friends encourage you to do something positive like helping others, getting involved in sports…  when friends try to get you do something harmful like fighting, drugs, lying, stealing…

11 How Do You Feel Today???? How many “emotions” can you name?
How often do you feel “stressed out?” What makes you “stressed out?” How do you attack/resolve your problems? Can you talk about your feelings easily? What is the biggest problem you have faced? Would you like to share it with the class?
