1 Quick Reference Guide: Skills Profiler – Employee
1. Navigate to the form Navigate to the Academy Central intranet page. Academy Central can be found on the portal homepage or by click on the link above. Scroll down the page and click on the link for Skills Profiler which is located on the right hand side of the screen. Figure 1: Navigate to the form 2. Instructions Read the instructions on using Skills Profiler and the Development Directory. Click Start when you are ready to begin. Figure 2: Instructions

2 3. Filter by type 4. Filter by department
Skills Profiler - Employee 3. Filter by type You have the ability to either create a needs based development plan or go straight to the Development Directory. This document covers creating the development plan. Make sure that View Skills Profiler is selected in the Filter by Type section. This should be selected by default. Figure 3: Filter by Type 4. Filter by department To search for your job you should select the department where you work from the filter on the left hand side of the screen. Each department is then broken down by job family. 3 5. Select Job 6. Review your skills
Skills Profiler - Employee 5. Select Job 5. Select the job that you wish to run a skills profile for by clicking either on the picture or the title of the job. Figure 5: Select Job 6. Review your skills Review your skills for the role by clicking on your current level for each skill. The required level of each skill is highlighted in blue. Each type of skill (Business Impact, Functional, Personal Impact or Leadership) is listed under it’s own dropdown menu and a tick appears in the menu bar, when all skills in the section have been assessed. If you need to state that you are working towards obtaining level 1 in a skill, select the option at the bottom of the skill level – working towards level 1. Figure 6: Review your skills

4 7. Generate Report 8. The Summary Screen
Skills Profiler - Employee 7. Generate Report When all skills have been assessed click Generate Report. You will be able to tell that all skills have been assessed by the tick on the right hand side of the skills menu box. If you miss any of the skills you will receive a message asking you to rate yourself against all skills before generating your report. Figure 7: Generate Report 8. The Summary Screen The summary screen shows a summary of the skills which you entered, whether you have skills which exceed or meet you target and whether there are any gaps which you need to address. To see more details of your assessment click the button for the skill type that you wish to view. From this page you can submit the report to your line manager, download the report as a PDF or view development advise from the Development Directory. Figure 8: The Summary Screen

5 9. Submit the Report 10. Download as PDF
Skills Profiler - Employee 9. Submit the Report Enter your employee ID, your name & address, your manager’s address and the group which is most appropriate to your job and then click Submit. If none of the group options are relevant to your role select unknown. Your employee ID needs to be unique. It can be made up of letters, numbers or both. Clicking submit will send a copy of your report to your line manager to review and approve. Once approved you will receive an approval . You are only able to submit 1 report per appraisal year. If you try to submit a second report you will receive a message that your report has already been submitted. Figure 9: Submit the Report 10. Download as PDF After clicking this option you will receive a message asking if you want to Save or Open the file. Select the option that you want to choose. If you open the file you will still be able to save the file within the PDF. Figure 10: Download as PDF

6 11. View Development Advice
Skills Profiler - Employee 11. View Development Advice The Development directory will load for the skills where you have gaps. The development advise is broken down into 3 sections – Self Development, Experience & Coaching and Training. You will need to scroll down to page to see all development advise for these 3 sections and for all skills. The level which you are required to have for a particular skill is highlighted in blue. If you wish to see the development advise for a particular skill, you can click on the blue bar at the top of the skill which you are looking for. This will minimise the current skill which you are looking at and allow you to select the skill which you require. Figure 11: View Development Advice

7 12. Create a Development Plan

Create a Development Plan To create a development plan you should review the development actions which you can take and select the level in the skill that you need to develop. You should do this for Self Development, Experience & Coaching and Training. However you do not need to make a selection for each area unless you choose to. When you have made all of the selections that you require click the Create Development Plan button. The development plan will appear on one page showing you the items that you have highlighted to include in the plan. If you wish to download a copy of your development plan click the Download as PDF button. Figure 12: View Development Advice Figure 12: Create a Development Plan

8 13. Suggest New Development Content
Skills Profiler - Employee 13. Suggest New Development Content If you have a suggestion for new development content you can make your suggestion by clicking on suggest new content at the bottom of the level box. A comments box is displayed where you need to enter your name, address and details of your suggestion. The suggestion should be as you would want it to appear in the Development Directory. The suggestion will be sent for approval. Once approved the suggestion will be added to the relevant section. Figure 13: Suggest New Development Content
