2 A couple of things to remember about proteins!!
Made of amino acids There are only 20 amino acids to make up a lot of proteins Proteins are a major component of cells Proteins are made in ribosomes

3 The genetic code …is universal.
…is a correlation between the codon on mRNA and an amino acid …some amino acids have more than one codon …there are stop & start codons

5 Translation …process of making protein from information carried by mRNA. …occurs in the ribosome

6 Steps of Translation mRNA travels to the ribosome
2) tRNA attaches to each codon, the anticodon on tRNA must be complimentary to the codon!!!

7 3) The tRNA releases its amino acid
4) Each codon is “read” in order and tRNA continues to release amino acids, in order, to be bonded to the previous amino acids.
