1 BELL WORK: Answer only Scientists noticed that frogs in Keheii Lagoon were much larger than frogs in Sand Island waters. Sand Island contains non-polluted fresh water whereas Keheii Lagoon contains pesticide contaminated water. In the experiment, tadpoles of the same age were collected in the same amount of water from each reservoir. The tadpoles were allowed to mature for 3 weeks and their growth was compared. The Sand Island tadpole average masses were: 1st Week 15 grams; 2nd Week 22 grams; and 3rd Week 41 grams. The Keheii Lagoon tadpole average masses were: 1st Week 13 grams; 2nd Week 18 grams; and 3rd Week 29 grams. Do you larger sizes of tadpoles in Keheii Lagoon or Sand Island? What is the problem? What is the independent variable? What is the dependent variable? What could be a possible hypothesis? What is the control group? The two reservoir – Sand Island and Keheii Lagoon The size of the tadpoles If tadpoles from Keheii Lagoon were measured, then the size of the tadpoles would be smaller because of the polluted waters.

2 AGENDA: Bell Work Collect HW Lab Write Up HW
Jigsaw Packet – Colored paper in front and stapled Speed Worksheet – page 1 only front and back Lab Write Up HW

4 With a person next to you, share the objectives for today!
Learning Targets: I can create a hypothesis using the “if, then, bc” format with IV & DV in mind. Today’s Class I can write a lab report using the appropriate format. I can calculate the speed, distance, or time using the speed formula (s=d/t) of an object in any given situation.

5 Lab Write Up: The average of the lab write up was 60%.
This was worth 36% of the overall grade so far. Exemplars, reminders, and enough time was provided. If you did really bad, and you were getting a B or a C. Your grade now is a D or an F. Lab Write Ups can be redone for a higher grade! Must be typed Have all formats corrected Make corrections on feedback we provided Due: October 2

6 Lab Write Up: Problem, Bckg Info, & Hypothesis
Underline w/ a Colon for each part If you had a 35/40 or higher, you only need to help out today. Background info is in paragraph format with important information about the topic. Do not number the parts of sci method!

7 Lab Write Up: Procedures
Underline w/ a colon for each part STEPS should be numbered. What is missing? Simple drawing or illustration of the procedures.

8 Lab Write Up: Data Tables & Graphs
Units in Heading STRAIGHT EDGE MUST BE USED! Data Table 1: Amount of Water Absorbed Amount of Water (mL) Brand 1 2 3 Avg Bounty 30 28 28.7 Scott 10 12 10.7 Towel 16 18 20 18.0 Title Title Labels w/ units Only see #’s Labels w/ units

9 Lab Write Up: Conclusion
Questions should be answered. Was your hypothesis correct? Explain why. Use quantitative evidence to defend your hypothesis. Were there possible errors? What could be a new experiment that you could do? How was it like working in a your group? Once answered it should be written as a paragraph in your lab write up.

10 Lab Write Up: IF YOU WANT LAB WRITE UP REGRADED… Must be typed
Have all formats corrected Make corrections on feedback we provided Procedures should be detailed in 3rd person w/a simple visual Data Tables and Graphs should be titled and done in correct format Conclusion is in paragraph format and answers the five questions asked. Due: October 2
