2 Slavery: Should slavery be legal in the United States?
Should the Constitution continue to allow slave trade? Should northerners be forced to turn over runaway slaves to their owners?

3 Slavery remained legal in the US until 1865 when the 13th amendment was passed.
Slave trade continued until 1808. Fugitive slaves had to be captured and returned to their masters.

4 2. Representation: How should states be represented in government? Should large states have more votes or should it be equal for all?

7 The Three-Fifths Compromise
Every 5 slaves would count as 3 people.

8 3. Voting: Who should be allowed to vote in general elections? Not everyone!!!

There are a total of 538 electoral votes (The District of Columbia is not a state but is given 3 electoral votes) How do we get the number 538??? 100 Senators 435 representatives

12 A candidate must have 270 electoral votes to win the Presidential election.
If no single candidate gets the required 270 electoral votes then the House of Representatives votes to decide the President
