2 Objective I will identify institutions basic to societies.

3 I) What is an institution?
Institution – refers to a long standing tradition, custom or practice that reflects the values of a society. Example of 4 types of Institutions all societies have: governmental, economic, educational, and religious

5 II) Governmental Institution
Governmental institutions – refers to a society’s system for creating rules and social order.

6 III) Economic institutions:
Economic institutions – refers to the practices that a society employs to provide for basic needs.

7 IV) Educational Institutions
Educational institutions – refers to the practices a society uses to pass on cultural and societal norms from one generation to the next; could include formal as well as informal schooling

8 V) Religious institutions
Religious institutions – refers to societal practices that relate to belief systems

9 Activity: Group Research:
You are to find and explain 1 example for: Governmental Institutions, Economic Institutions, Educational Institutions, and Religious institutions. Write down your information on your foldable. Be ready to discuss your finding.
