2 Behavior All the actions an animal performs. Includes:
Obtaining food Avoid predators Finding a mate Evolved over time How?

3 Behavior Everything reacts to stimulus (something to make you react).
What was your response? Behaviors function to assist in survival and reproduction. Hiding Nest building Searching for a mate Some are instincts or innate (an inborn response to a stimuli i.e. coughing)

4 Learned Behaviors Imprinting-first few movements a newborn sees is the mother ( a mental picture engrained). Keeps new-born near mother and learn what others in their species look like. Conditioning is a learned response to a good or bad stimulus. (Homework done correctly = 100). Trial-and-Error is learning to perform a task more skillfully over time. Insight learning -problem solving applying reasoning

5 Communication Use scents, sounds, and body language to communicate.
Pheromones are scents that affect other’s behavior. Aggression is a threatening behavior to gain control over others. Marking territory

6 Behavior cycles Circadian cycles-daily behavior cycle (work during day and sleep at night). Hibernation- a state of reduced activity during the winter when food is scarce. Migration is a regular seasonal journey from one place to another and back again. To find food Find more suitable living area Find a mate Behavioral adaptation that has evolved over time to help animals survive.
