2 George Washington What do you know about George Washington? Where was he from? Why is he famous? Do you know any places in the United States called Washington?

George Washington was born February 22, 1732 in Virginia. His family was rich. They owned a large plantation. He loved parties and dancing. George was kind and gave money to many poor people. He was the leader of the American Army in the Revolutionary War for independence from England.

5 George married a wealthy lady
George married a wealthy lady. Her name was Martha, and she was 14 years older than George. Their home was a plantation on the Potomac River.

6 George Washington’s Plantation at Mount Vernon.

7 Mount Vernon was a large and lovely plantation on the Potomac River.

8 The living room at Mount Vernon was not large, but it was elegant.

9 Washington loved the garden and pathway at Mount Vernon.

George believed that America should be free from England. He did not want a king to rule the new country. He was the leader of the army in the war for independence. He did not ask for any pay for his work. He was a good leader. The soldiers loved him. The men didn’t have warm clothes or shoes, but they kept fighting for Washington and the new country.
