LANGUAGE: Our theme this week is all about Amazing Creatures of the ocean! We will swim through non-fiction literature and media to discover the characteristics of the unique creatures that call the ocean their home. Our high frequency words for this week are: with, my. Academic and Oral Vocabulary Words: invite, deep, reason, ocean, amazing. MATH: We will continue with Unit 6, Place Value and Exploring Teen Numbers. We will continue Unit 6 this week: Place Value and Exploring Teen Numbers. The students will understand the foundation of place value as it relates to numbers They will be able to compose and decompose numbers into ten ones and one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, or nine ones by using drawings or objects. Academic Vocabulary: +, plus sign, means add, =, equal sign, means is the same as, teen numbers, group of ten and some more, calculator, one more, one less, number path, fewer/lesser/least, ten frame, double ten frame, expression, equation, number sentence Announcements: KINDERGARTEN PERFORMANCE: Tuesday, May 9th . For your convenience, we will have two parent performances for you to choose to attend. There will be a morning performance at 10:00A.M. and the afternoon performance is at 1:30 P.M. THERE WILL BE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT WITH YOUR CHILD IN THE CLASSROOM FOLLOWING THE AFTERNOON PERFORMANCE. KINDERGARTEN PERFORMANCE VOLUNTEER WEEK BEGINS TODAY… .if you signed up to volunteer to tie dye shirts or decorate the stage, please arrive at school at the time you indicated. If you cannot remember the time you volunteered, please contact Mrs. Cascio or Mrs. Wetekamm to confirm your time. If for some reason, the projects are finished ahead of schedule, and your volunteer time is not required, we will get in contact with you to let you know. Thank you so much for volunteering your time. The students are so excited and working so hard! MES REFLECTION GARDEN IS HAPPENING! Volunteers worked tirelessly this past weekend moving dirt and laying stones for this beautiful addition to our school. Remember, if you can donate any monkey grass from your own yard, please send it in a grocery bag with your student and we will add it to our garden. Thank you to Mrs. Cleveland, our art teacher, for leading and coordinating this beautiful project! April 30th through May 4th is State Wide Testing for 3rd Graders. No volunteers or visitors in the building, including all classrooms and cafeteria during this time. Dates to Remember: April 30-May 4 3rd Grade Testing-No Volunteers May Kindergarten Performance 10 & 1:30 May PTA Volunteer Luncheon May End of 4th 9 Weeks- Half Day Students (1/2 day-School 12:51) REMEMBER: NEATNESS AND EFFORT COUNT! *Homework should not exceed 15 minutes daily, and should be completed in your child’s HOMEWORK JOURNAL. *. *Send in your Homework JOURNAL this THURSDAY for checking. ** REMEMBER TO PACK YOUR SUPER READER IN YOUR TOTE BAG FOR YOUR SCHEDULED DAY TO READ! Monday - Practice Super Reader! Write one sentence using the word with and another sentence with the word my. Double-check your sentences for capital, spacing, and puntcuation. Tuesday Show three ways to represent the number 17. You can use tally marks, number bonds, an equation, a double ten frame, word form, picture, or towers.) Wednesday “Read it, Draw it, Solve it” 14 jelly fish. 5 swim away. How many jellyfish are left? Draw your problem, and solve by writing an equation AND a number bond. Thursday Choose your favorite ocean animal. Write two facts and illustrate your writing. Put your Homework Journal in your tote bag for checking.
