2 What is a verb? A verb is a doing word. It describes an action
I eat my sandwiches. I write a letter.

3 What is an imperative verb?
Use imperatives to: Give instructions. Give warnings. Give advice. Give orders. Make requests. The implied subject of an imperative is always “you,” but the subject is not included in the statement.

4 Use them after sequencing words in your own instructions.
1. Give Instructions Use them after sequencing words in your own instructions. First, fold the card in half. Next, cut a small slit. Then, stick the picture onto the card.

5 Select a suitable imperative verb to complete each sentence.
Turn right at the mini roundabout. Open the door and enter the corridor. Pour one pint of milk into a jug. Plug in the hairdryer before you turn it on.

6 2. Give Warnings A warning is a statement indicates a possible danger, problem, or other unpleasant situation. Be careful! Don’t touch that! Watch out! Note: strong warnings or orders end with an exclamation point(!)

7 3. Give Advice Advice-recommendations concerning a future action
Eat lots of vegetables. Do your homework. Brush your teeth.

8 4. Give Orders It is a bossy verb!
It gives you an order or tells you what to do. Turn left at the traffic lights. Mix the flour and butter together.

9 5. Make Requests Please open the window. Open the window, please.
Please shut the door. Shut the door, please. Add “please” to the beginning or the end of an imperative to make a request sound more polite.
