3 Mood 1. The indicative is the verb used in ordinary statements and questions 2. The Imperative is used to give orders and instructions: 3. The subjunctive is used to express doubts, wishes, hopes, etc. 4. The conditional is stating something will cause something else to happen and uses the words might, would, and could.

The California gold rush started in1884. When did the California gold rush start?

Look up the date of the California gold rush. Shut the doors.

7 Subjunctive 1. Hypothetical situation =after "if" clauses that state or describe a hypothetical situation If I were a butterfly, I would have wings. 2. Expressing hope or desire. God be with you. Long live the queen.

8 Subjunctive Cont. Also in a “that” clause when the main clause expresses a demand, command, recommendation, request, or take certain action Examples: They demand that the management refund their money. The board recommends that the treasurer resign at once.
