3 National Small-holder Poultry Development Trust (NSPDT)
NSPDT, through its small holder community model, enables poor women in rural India to start and run successful poultry enterprises. Vision: To inspire, encourage, facilitate and promote emergence of an efficient farmer-owned network of well organized empowered small-holder poultry farmers, setting the very best standards of professional excellence and wholesome development Mission: Promote and advance small-holder poultry as an instrument of bettering lives and livelihoods of rural families Roles: The following are the envisaged role(s) of the organization, To promote, protect and nurture the small holder poultry producers including launch new farmers Maintain system integrity and ensure compliance Sector Development Work including policy advocacy & mobilize public investments Support to State level Federation and business verticals, ensuring member-bias in business is retained

5 NSPDT Evolution PRADAN, a national level NGO working with tribals and dalit families in eastern and central India -- started broiler farming in Kesla (Hoshangabad district, M.P) in1993 Activity organized on cooperative lines in 1997 and registered 1st small-holder broiler producers cooperative in 2001 as Kesla Poultry Sahkarita Maryadit (KPSM) Today this model has been replicated to 21 cooperatives in Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha and are federated into 2 state level federations Providing a sectoral organisation framework, PRADAN facilitated the creation of NSPDT in 2009 to spearhead : Promotion, protection and nurturing of smallholder poultry producers and their collectives Initiation and sustaining sector development work (Policy advocacy, mobilising public investments etc. ) Puts in place a dedicated team in support of smallholder community poultry

6 Small Holder Poultry Intervention
It has unpacked and adapted broiler production technology to context of poor tribal and Dalit women Women from tribal and Dalit families organized into cooperatives A community nested supervisor system for doorstep referral services Professional Team deployed for anchoring day to day management of the cooperatives Supported by a customized accounts and MIS This structure provides for both forward and backward linkage services. Designed a socio-techno-commercial model for inclusion of tribal and Dalit smallholders into the poultry sector. Assisting and facilitating the movement of farmers from non producers to producers in an industrialised sector.
