3. What does it mean to be transgender?
Working definitions of “transgender”:
Assigned sex doesn’t match their gender identity.
Often noticed at a very young age.
Gender expression transgresses traditional gender role.
Many different definitions
Very diverse community
Not all people who fit under these definitions actually classify themselves as transgender (i.e.- drag queens & kings).
Intersections of class, race, age, ability, etc.
May not be able to afford hormones.
Geographical location may influence availability of resources.
Many male to females transition late in life.
