1. “Mom,” Suzy pleaded, “I really want to go to the concert tomorrow night.”
Her mother replied firmly, “You know the rules, Suzy. No big events are allowed on school nights.”
“But I have talked to teachers about getting my work ahead of time so that I won’t have anything to do tomorrow night. I have all my work with me so I can study and complete assignments tonight…ahead of time.”
Mom thought for a moment and responded, “So, if I all your teachers, they will each tell me that you spoke with them about this matter?”
“Well, actually, I did talk to a couple of them, but I didn’t have time to talk to all of them today,” Suzy mumbled.
“So, you want me to bend the rules for you,” Mom exclaimed, “and accept the fact that you just lied to me!”
“I know I wasn’t completely honest, but I did talk to the teachers that I knew would probably give assignments for homework. And besides, I never said that I talked to ALL my teachers. Seriously, I have been working so hard this semester, and I really think that I should be given a break just this one time!” Suzy snapped.
“I have noticed that you have really been working hard to keep your grades up this semester.”
“So you will let me go?”
“I am sorry, but the answer is NO.”
