1 Mrs. Morris’s Class Rules, Procedures and Expectations
7th Grade English English 1 6th Grade

2 Talking The Stoplight Red = no talking Yellow = Controlled discussion (a time to raise your hand and ask questions) Green: Free talking AT YOUR SEAT Even if the light is on Green or Yellow you must ALWAYS use an inside voice. Now draw a stoplight and label it appropriately

3 Entering Class As you enter my classroom make sure you always go straight to your seat to set down your things. Your bookbag may be placed under your desk, behind your chair, or beside your desk, just make sure it does not block the aisles through the classroom. If you have homework/classwork to turn in you should turn it in to your class’s appropriate drawer at the back of the room. I shouldn’t have to remind you to turn homework in, although I will try to mention it.

4 Bringing your Materials
You must bring your binder and composition notebook daily. You should also always have paper a sharpened pencil, and your handheld pencil sharpener.

5 Warm-ups You will have a warm-up most days of the school year. It should go in your composition notebook. You must put the warm-up number and date. Warm-ups will be checked twice a quarter, once around interims and once around report card time. Your warm-ups count as a BIG classwork grade! They should be an easy A because we will almost always discuss the answer!

7 Turning in Work Your work should always be turned into your period’s appropriate drawer at the back of the room. There may be a few times I ask you to turn in work elsewhere, but it won’t be much! It is your responsibility to place your work in the appropriate drawer. It is also your responsibility to make sure your name, the date, and your class period are written in the correct spot on your paper! Work without a name will not be graded, which means you could receive a zero!

8 Test Days Major test days in ELA will always be on Fridays; this does not include quizzes. Quizzes may be any day of the week, but I will always give you at least a week’s notice (unless it is a pop quiz of course!)

9 The Agenda/Homework Board
The agenda (basically a to do list) will always be posted in your grade’s specific section on the white board at at the front of the room. Make sure to always look at the agenda when you enter the room so you know what to expect each day in class! Homework will also be posted within your grade’s appropriate section on the whiteboard at the front of the room. Make sure to always write down your homework in your own school agenda everyday!

10 The Learning Target Board
A learning target is a short term goal I set for my students during each class. Make sure to always read the learning target First, at the beginning of class, so you know what I excpect you to accomplish A Second time at the end of class to make sure that you met your target! If you ever feel that you haven’t met your days target, please make time to talk with me after class.

11 Class Cleanliness YOU are responsible for keeping your desk area clean and tidy while you are in my class. Never leave any of your items behind after class Never leave any trash on the floor (paper, pencil shavings, etc.) Excessive disrespect of the classroom environment will result in disciplinary action.

12 Class Respect We will always show the upmost respect to everyone within my classroom. Make sure you follow our respect guidelines by doing the following: Always raise your hand to get permission before you speak Always raise your hand to get permission before leaving your seat Do not talk while someone else is talking (especially if Mrs. Morris is talking!) Be kind to your classmates. I do not tolerate any rude language, bullying, etc. of any kind.

13 A few other things… Mrs. Morris’s desk area and chair/pillow at the back of the room are OFF limits to students. Students are never allowed to answer the telephone, only Mrs. Morris or another teacher may do so. When a guest visits the room or someone needs to talk to Mrs. Morris during class you will show the upmost respect by being SILENT. If you read one of my books from my bookcase you must place it NEATLY back on the shelf. Students are not allowed to write on the Smartboard or Whiteboards unless directed to do so. Questions and comments during class discussions/notes should always be relevant and on task. NO leaning back in chairs or leaning the desks.

14 Exiting Class Do not pack up your things until I tell you to. Make sure you push in your chair and make sure your desk is straight. Do not leave any trash or items behind. Leaving trash behind numerous times will result in disciplinary action, if you leave your items behind they will either be thrown away or turned into the lost and found.
