3 Male Reproductive System
1. Bladder*: holds urine prior to urination. Urine leaves the bladder via the urethra. 2. Urethra: a tube which allows urine and semen to exit the body. Connects to the bladder 3. Vas deferens: a tube which connects the testes to the urethra and allows semen to exit the body. 4. Testes: two glands which produce sperm and hormones (testosterone) 5. Prostate gland: secretes fluid that nourishes and protects sperm.

5 Female Reproductive System
1. Ovaries: production and release of eggs. This release of the egg is called ovulation. 2. Fallopian Tubes: Takes egg from ovary to uterus Where fertilization occurs. 3. Uterus: houses fetus. (womb)

6 The Menstrual Cycle and Fertilization
Egg is fertilized by sperm = zygote Implantation: fertilized egg (zygote) attaches to uterus lining and begins to develop If the egg isn’t fertilized it’s released along with the inside lining of the uterus (Menstruation)

7 Pregnancy Amniotic sac: bag of fluid inside womb, where baby develops and grows. Placenta: attached to lining of the womb, it keeps blood supply separate from mothers. Umbilical Cord: connects placenta to baby. Carries nutrients and oxygen into the baby’s bloodstream.
