Weekly Notes from 2nd Grade Command Central Week of September 26-30 Nightly Expectations this week Each night, the children are expected to read for at least minutes and practice quick recall of addition and subtraction facts to 20. Our Second Week This week: This Week: We will be wrapping up our unit on diversity and will begin talking about past and present times. During this unit we will focus on changes in communities looking at buildings, clothing, transportation, occupations, and population as time passes. In math, we will begin exploring patterns, odd and even numbers, and skip counting. Each week we will post *I Can* Statements where you can learn more information about these areas of study. Please note... *Back to School Family Picnic is Tuesday, September 29th at 5:30pm. * Picture Day is on Thursday, October 6th * Please help your child by reminding him/her to bring his/her pocket folder, daily journal, and a healthy snack each day. If you received a note about classroom allergies, please remember to pack peanut and tree nut free items. If you have not already sent in a chair pocket, tub, or art smock, PLEASE send those in as soon as possible!  Homework Monday: Social Studies: Begin the Communities of Past and Present Interview that is found on the Second Grade Blog. This interview is found under the “Homework This Week…” tab. Interview your parents or your grandparents. Bring in an item from the past to share on Friday for our Antique Roadshow. Remember this item should be older than you! Answer “Antique Roadshow and Tell” questions on the Second Grade Blog. These questions are found under the “Homework This Week…” tab. Tuesday: Social Studies: Finish the Communities of Past and Present Interview that is found on the Second Grade Blog. This interview is found under the “Homework This Week…” tab. Interview your parents or your grandparents. Wednesday: Math: Play Even and Odd Monkey Drive found on the Blog. After, skip count by 2s, 5s, and 10s, with a parent two times. See who can do it faster the second time! Thursday: Math: On a piece of paper write the number 50 and skip count by 2s to 70. Then write the number 20 and skip count by 5s to 50. After that, skip count by 10s from 0 to 100. Reminders  Please remember to sign-up for Mystery Reader and Parent-Teacher Conferences on nList. If you need help getting on nList, please contact your child’s teacher.
