3 Regions of the body For ease of reference the body is separated into different regions.

5 Directional terms Anterior/ventral – toward front (in front)
Posterior/dorsal – toward back (behind) Superficial - surface Deep – internal Superior – toward head Inferior – toward buttocks Medial – center Lateral – away from center Proximal – close to trunk of body Distal – farther from body trunk

6 Body Planes/sections A “cut” along an imaginary line used to look at the internal structures of the body.
