Poe’s writing style
Poe’s has a very dark, unique, and mysterious way of writing. His writing appeals to emotion and drama. His most impactful works are gothic.
Why does Poe write the way he does?
Poe has gone through many hardships that inspired his work. He has never looked to any other literary works for inspiration. His wife was a major inspiration with his works and writing. In 1845, Poe wrote his best known poem about a raven. Poe had a real life pet raven, he was very impressed by how intelligent and aggressive the bird was, so he taught him to speak.

Poe’s life was very depressing, which helped his inspiration for his dark, mysterious stories. He was separated from his parents and siblings at birth, and went to watch the rest of his family die around him. These dark events in his life stimulated his unique and dark style of writing, which made him famous.

I do not believe the world around Edgar Allan Poe affected him in a positive and yet mutual way. In a quote from the movie Master of Horrors, Poe states “I have little sense of the world around me. Such is my genius.” However, in many of his writings, he uses events somewhat based off of real life. Therefore, I say he is both affected and not affected by the world around him in his writing.

Poe had a gambling problem in college and ran up a 2,000 dollar debt in December of 1826.
In the winter of December 1811, Poe’s mother died of tuberculosis when Poe was only three years of age. Poe then got split from his siblings and put into a foster family.
When Poe was only three years old, his father had abandoned him, his two siblings, and mother in July of 1811.

What Makes Poe, Poe!
Edgar Allan Poe drank heavily and behaved erratically even after having huge success from his book “The Raven” which he released in January 1845.
Poe went into the Army in March of 1827 and ended up intentionally getting kicked out in April of 1829.
In January 1847 his wife, Virginia died of tuberculosis. He then went into a deep depression because of it.
Poe’s older brother Henry died of tuberculosis on August 1st, 1831.
