This course exposes students to basic concepts in phonetics and phonology. It helps students to have a proper understanding of what these concepts are. The goal of this course is to teach students and make them have linguistic competence of the language.

WEEK 1: Intonation (what is intonation?, intonational types/patterns, uses of intonation
WEEK 2: English syllable (syllabic structure)
WEEK 3: Stress in English (word stress, sentence stress)
WEEK 4: Labialisation and palatalisation
WEEK 5: Aspiration and Dentalisation
WEEK 6: Syllabification and velarisation
WEEK 7: Foot and Tone group
