1 Essential information for this class…

2 Course Objective: To further the students’ understanding of the French language, and the cultures of French-speaking peoples throughout the world--- and to increase proficiency through practice in reading, writing, speaking and comprehension of the target language.

3 Course Requirements: Prerequisite: Must have passed previous level, (both semesters) to be in current class. All classes will follow (new and updated) skills-based curriculum guides. Note: Textbooks will be used only as guides. Materials  Internet access(and knowledge of basic Microsoft Office programs)—plus basic materials (and participation is essential). Note: We have class sets of books—and they are used merely as a guide.

Communication: …is key! Students, make sure to read info board each day when you come in, and act accordingly (not all information or directions will be given aloud) . 5 Note about technology:
Language lab – Will be used frequently, for speaking and listening practice. Smart Projector –for interactive activities Mobile lab (shared) - For projects, and online language practice. Innovation lab (B hall) for cooking and other projects. Use of electronics – Allowed at instructor’s discretion (for class-related tasks).

6 Note about grades: It is expected that both students and parents check Focus regularly—to monitor student progress. Grades are updated often. My grading categories (weighted): - Category 1: Homework, class work, projects, and participation = 35% - Category 2: All assessments (quizzes, tests, speaking assessments) = 65%

7 Classroom Expectations
Be responsible. Be prepared. Treat others with respect. Participate daily. Stay on task. Have fun and learn 

8 Division of class time…
Explicit instruction – I explain. Guided practice – We practice together. Independent / pairs practice – You practice individually, or with a partner. And we generally have a 5-minute “wind down” at the end of each class—for getting started on hw, questions, clerical, etc.

9 Hall Pass / Tardy Procedures:
Ask. Sign out & take pass. Return pass & sign back in. *Tardy: Always sign in when tardy. Consequences follow school policy.

10 Papers and makeups… Regular class / homework
& class set papers: Graded work & makeup work: Class makeup policy: CW / HW accepted up to one day late for ½ credit. All assessments must be made up within 3 days (at lunch or after school. Please make an appointment with me.
