1 Hailey Smith’s Career Path
How to become an Artistic Director

2 My Career Goals I want to become an Art Director by the year 2027
To get there, I will need to: Get a beginner part time job by the end of the year 2018 to build up my responsibility and other important skills that I will need as I grow up and start university. Volunteer in various Care homes and tutor younger students through out my high school career. Graduate high school by June 2019 Get my bachelors degree at the University of Victoria and start my training to be an art director by the year 2024 My Career Goals

3 What is an art director There are various different types of art directors. You can go into Film, Multi-Media, Advertising, Print, Marketing, Publishing, Internet and Video Games. Going to school and getting a degree in art or marketing will open up lots of doors so you can decide later on what kind of Art Director you want to be. In this job I will be responsible for the over all outcome of the look of the project. I will be supervising the progress and art work from the artists that are in lower positions so when the over all assignment is being put together I will be making sure that I is perfect.

4 About my future career To do this job, I would work in an art studio, in an office building and sometimes in a studio space at home. Being an art director I would be earning $40, $120, 000 annually depending on the level of my job. Working as an art director for a magazine I will be working around 40 hours a week. Around 9 hours a day Monday to Friday but should expect to be called in on weekends and evenings.

5 My job has a 2.30% chance of becoming automated
I think that this job will not be replaced by robots because for visual arts you need a humans touch to make it real. No robot can measure up to humans because they don’t have emotions that make the project come to life, weather it is dance, magazine art, advertising and anything else. This job just simply cant be done without human guidance. Two percent increase of employment by the year 2024

6 Being an Art director would be great for me because…
I am a creative and artsy person, I love coming up with ideas so I think that I would love this job. I love drawing, painting, photography and everything else along the lines of art. My aunt is an art director for a company called Stocksy. She gets amazing opportunities with her job and I would love to follow a similar career path as her. Being an Art director would be great for me because…

7 I am not quite ready for this career, but I will get there!
These are skills for the job I still need to learn: Working under pressure Working with computers This is how I will get those necessary skills: In order to learn how to work under pressure I need to learn how to take my stress and turn it into energy to keep calm and continue the task. Through out my year at riverside I will be working with computers in my electronic program at the school. I will also be taking key boarding, computer and graphic design courses in my grade 11 and 12 yeas so I can get use to working with computers more. When I go into university I will learn more in depth about how I will be using computers in visual arts professions. I am not quite ready for this career, but I will get there!

8 This is what appeals to me with this career…
The biggest thing that appeals to me about this career is the creative aspect. To be an art director you have to be innovative and I feel like I would fit right into the environment. Being around other artsy and creative people all day would be good for me. Not only career wise but the aspect of surrounding myself with people that have the same interests as me would be a great experience. This is what appeals to me with this career…

9 These are some things I find less appealing about this career…
Looking into this job it seems that it is hard to find a down side but if there has to be something that I find the least appealing would probably be the schedule. In the busy times of the year I will have to be on call on the weekends and on evening. I am usually a really organized person and I feel that not having a set schedule would through me off a little bit. These are some things I find less appealing about this career…

10 Potential obstacles to getting this career
The possible obstacles: Not being able to afford my schooling Getting distracted and loosing track of my path. My plan to overcome them: Continue to apply for scholarships. Work more in my current job. Keep a clear career path written out along with goals. Make sure I get rid of the distractions or learn how to put them aside for the time being. Potential obstacles to getting this career

11 Potential obstacles to being successful within this career
The possible obstacles: The higher my position is the more hours I will be working, less time with loved ones. My plan to overcome them: Make sure I know my limits in how much time I work and if it comes to a time when I get promoted I learn to figure out a secure schedule so I can have a personal and professional life.
