3 EDUCATION AND TRAINING Usually need a bachelor’s degree in graphic design or a related field. Candidates for graphic design positions should demonstrate their creativity and originality through a professional portfolio that features their best designs.

4 OTHER QUALIFICATIONS NECESSARY Basic qualifications of a good graphic designer include creativity, communications skills, and problem solving skills. Graphic design entails more than just your ability in Photoshop and art. While a good eye for color, form and detail is important to have, graphic design is a lot more than it seems English language-Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

5 JOB OUTLOOK AND PROSPECTS Employment of graphic designers is projected to grow 7 percent from 2012 to 2022, slower than the average for all occupations. Graphic designers are expected to face strong competition for available positions.

6 POTENTIAL EARNINGS NOW AND IN FUTURE Entry level :$26,110 MEDIAN SALARIES:$44,150 TOP 10%:$77,490 Salaries are primarily dependent upon years of experience. In 2012, about 24 percent of graphic designers were self-employed.
