4 Notes about Graduation requirements:
The requirements addressed in this presentation apply to the class of 2021 and beyond. Students are encouraged to meet with their counselor 1:1 twice a year to monitor progress. Meeting these requirements is a student obligation and expectation. We are here to support you.

5 4-year Core Courses English: 4 full years
Social Studies: 3.5 full years Honors World Studies/Humanities 1 (9th grade) U.S. History/ Humanities 2 (10th grade) Semester of Government, Semester of Economics and a Semester of AP Human Geography.

6 Math Sequence 3 Years Minimum (4 years is recommended):
Minimum sequence to graduate includes: Intermediate Algebra Geometry/Honors Geometry Advanced Algebra Other math electives include: Pre-Calculus AP AB Calculus AP BC Calculus AP Statistics College Prep Algebra & Statistics

7 Science 9th –Physical Science 10th –Biology
11th –Chemistry or Physics (both are recommended before graduation) 12th – Electives in Science are highly recommended: AP Environmental AP Biology AP Chemistry AP Physics PSEO Science course

8 World Languages Two-year minimum for Liberal Arts diploma.
Most colleges want at least 2 years of the same World Language; competitive colleges look for 3, 4, or more. If you read, write, and speak a second language, you may waive or test out the requirement in college.

9 Fine Arts One year is required.
Music, visual arts, and graphic/digital photography classes count. Half the value of some PLTW classes count (Intro and Principle of Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing. & Engineering Design and Development).

10 Physical Education and Health
Fitness for life 1 (1 semester). Health 1 (1 semester). Some students take these classes through MPS Online; space is limited.

11 AVID Advancement Via Individual Determination
Is a program, not just a course Is for students in the “academic middle” who want to go to college and might need support Historically underrepresented at college/university AVID Coordinator: Katie Allebach-Franz

12 Project Lead the Way (PLTW)
Year-long college-level Engineering courses May earn college credits. For students “at or above” grade level in math and science. Teaches problem-solving and creativity in a computer-based setting. Half of the PLTW credit counts toward Fine Arts for Intro to Engineering and Principle of Engineering, Computer Integrated Manufacturing. & Engineering Design and Development). Principles of Engineering (P.O.E.) also counts for 1 year of Physics (additional online coursework required).

13 Completing the Course Selection Form
Be sure that Name, Student ID, Program, and next year’s grade level are all on the form. Please include a phone number where we can reach you if we have questions.

16 Choose enough electives
You must provide 8 elective choices in order of preference (with #1 being the elective you want the most and #8 the elective you want the least). Sometimes classes are not be offered or might conflict with the rest of your schedule. If you don’t choose enough electives, we will select for you and you may have no option to change.

We will hold you to your commitment to your courses Consult with your family Current teachers will provide recommendations to our school in World Languages and Math

18 Requests VS Schedules Course offerings are determined by:
Number of student requests Budget Staffing Schedules are available at the August “Back to School Event.” Class schedules on the portal prior to this event are NOT final.
