16 Photograph taken immediately after the departure of the Germans from Auschwitz-Birkenau. Sacks of human hair packed for dispatch to Germany. The women had their hair cut prior to gassing. In Auschwitz warehouses 7,000 kilos of human hair was found at liberation. (January 1945)

17 The spoils: the victims' gold teeth and dental work, collected by the Nazis. After the war, the allies found many documents listing quantities of gold teeth transferred from the camps to banks inside Germany. A secret vault was also discovered, containing (among other valuables) 384 pounds of gold and silver teeth.
