1 Safety online Parental advice

2 Welcome to this workshop, parents.
This workshop is to enable you to use the social media appropriately by not sharing inappropriate pictures or posts. We hope you enjoy this PowerPoint!

3 How you use medias has an effect on your child's safety!
Almost 1 in 4 young people have experienced something upsetting on a social networking site. Almost 1 in 4 young people have come across racist or hate messages online.1 in 3 children have been a victim of cyberbullying. This could happen if you don’t take the responsibility of being a role model for your child today. Say you use inappropriate language or pictures online or on social media; your child automatically thinks it is ok to do it too.

4 What is your role? After hearing all of these pieces of evidence it is now your job to think before you type. We hope it has opened your mind on how you are your child’s role model. Furthermore whatever you do your children will follow, therefore do the right thing, and show your children how to avoid being a cyber bully and help them to protect themselves.

5 Role models to your children
Here are some reasons why it is important to make your child/children understand the importance of staying safe online: Children are born without social knowledge or skills, and they look for someone special to imitate. That “someone” is usually one or both of the parents. Parents are a child's first teachers and role models. And usually children are more affected by what their parents do than what their parents say. Children learn how to behave by seeing how their mothers and fathers behave and by following their example.

6 Now make the right choice!
Keep aiming high to make your child and you online safe.

7 Whatever you do now will effect your children's lives,
furthermore please be a brilliant role model. Thank you for Listening from the E-safety Committee and the Digital Leaders!
