What are some things that you notice, what are some things that you wonder? Number of pets Frequency llll llll 1 llll 2 ll 3 4 l

3 I will be able to: apply my statistical question and the tool to collect the statistical data
So that I can: collect data to analyze and summarize I will show that I understood it by asking others my statistical question and by using the statistical tool I created to collect and organize the data with my group with 100% accuracy. 6.SP. A.4 6.SP. A.5

4 Language Objective By the end of the lesson, students will be able to use the language domains of reading and writing to communicate the academic math language of statistics. They will be able to apply their statistical question and the tool to collect the statistical data to analyze and summarize. They will show that they understood it by asking others their statistical question and by using the statistical tool they created to collect and organize the data with their group with 100% accuracy. Academic Math Language Vocabulary: data, statistical data collection tool, analyze, summarize, graphical model, dot plot, box and whiskers, histogram, bar graph

5 Developing a Statistical Project (As a reminder)
Over the next few days, you will be working in a small group to apply the skills you have learned from statistics to create and implement your own statistical project. Your group will: Create a statistical question. Determine a data collection tool. Gather the data using the collection tool from at least 50 students. Organize the data you have collected and graph the data in at least 2 different ways. Utilize the graphs to answer your statistical question. Create a visual (poster) that includes your statistical question, graphs, measures of center and variability (mean, median, mode, MAD, range) Prepare a presentation

7 Data Collection Tool With your group, you should have:
Create a data collection tool If you are creating a survey, you need to develop your survey question and create a way to collect/organize the data (tally chart, frequency table, spreadsheet, etc.) by providing a written description of what you are going to collect and how you are going to collect it. If you are gathering data through measuring something, you need to provide a written description of what you are going to measure and how you are going to measure it.

8 Collecting the Data Working with your groups you will need to start collecting data from people in your class using your data collection tool. You will collect the remaining part of your data from the other class and you will start to organize it. You need to make sure you have surveyed roughly 50 students. Organizing our data includes: the numerical summaries as well as the graphic summaries. (you will start a rough draft of finding the mean, median, mode, range, MAD, IQR, etc.)

9 How do you feel? topic.

10 I can use my examples to help!
Homework: handout

11 Exit Ticket handout

12 Accommodations Read or reread presentation or activity directions, as needed or after prompting Use examples to model and act as a guide for emerging learners
